Wedding pics are here!

I know I've gone on and on about the wedding I was matron of honor for last September. The pictures are here and they are gorgeous! It helped that the subjects were gorgeous, right? Of course! Haha.

I really liked how they turned out. I'm not a fan of photos that are too dramatic or overposed. I like them simply styled and natural looking. These came just just that - simply beautiful! They were taken by Lane Dittoe.

Now, I'm waiting to see the video taken of the event. I think they may be destination wedding videgraphers too and their approach  is more journalistic rather than posey-posey.

Sigh...I'm missing my friend, just looking at the pics. But I'm really happy for her too! She and her hubby came down a few weeks ago to celebrate her birthday. They both looked so happy and content. Exactly what you want to see in newlyweds. :)

Wedding Bells Are Ringing

My brother is getting married! I am truly excited for him and his fiancee. He told me and my parents about his plans before he popped the question. And my mom shed some tears. According to her, it's happy tears though. ;)

We're definitely going home to the Philippines. We're praying that God will provide the necessary funds for our airfare. Can you imagine how much we will spend on airfare?! There will be 6 ticketed passengers in all with Baby lap-sitting. There is also the issue of DH taking a leave from work. We want to make the most of our trip and stay hopefully 3-4 weeks. I'm not sure DH will be able to take that long a leave from work. We are praying though. We're also looking into plan b should DH not be granted vacation time.

My brother just sent me a message that his fiancee is excitedly looking for cute flower girl dresses for my girls. Looks like they have all the important vendors booked. Preparations seem to be well under way. I'm sure the bride-to be knows all the the best wedding planning apps there are although I wonder if she's a more hands-on bride or will employ a wedding planner.

Sigh, love weddings!

The Dress!

The dress is here!!!

Well, technically, the dress is with T and not yet with me. This is the dress I will be wearing as matron of honor. You like?

Agh! It's frightening to think that in a little over a month I will be squeezing myself into that dress. I've been exercising and trying to slim down but I can't cut back too much on my calories because when I do, my milk supply goes down. My love for Baby far outweighs my vanity. And that has kept me away from drastic measures, be it safe slimming pills or crash diets.

I've been trying to eat more healthily and exercising regularly. The pounds and inches are slowly melting off. It is a slow process though, much slower than I would like. I console myself that with this process, I'm creating a healthier lifestyle and so I will hopefully keep off the weight for years to come.

T tried on the dress and has told me that it is beautiful. It made her look slimmer. I'm hoping it will look good on me too! We're going to have sleeves put in because I am worried that the dress will not hold up later in the day when my breasts fill up with milk. I don't want to have a wardrobe malfunction!

I'm both excited and anxious to try on the dress. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Becoming Matron of Honor

I had mentioned in an earlier post that a good friend of mine had asked me to be her matron of honor.

Preparations are well under way. They have decided on a date and have booked a church. Yipee! They have decided on a September wedding which means that I have time from when I give birth to lose the baby weight. Six months is a long enough time to lose the weight in a healthy way without resorting to artificial fat burners, right? Just gotta make sure I breastfeed a lot! LOL!

What responsibilities does a matron of honor have? I kinda feel bad that I am not able to help more because of my pregnancy and then later on, the new baby. As much as I wish to be with her to look at venues, etc, I am not able to do that. Thank goodness for the internet so I can look and research from home.

It's getting to be really exciting as preparations start rolling along. I am so happy for this couple. I pray that these next several months will draw them even closer to each other and to God.

Dreaming of Weddings

A good friend got engaged a few days ago and she asked me to be her matron of honor. Of course, I accepted. I am thrilled to be helping her in this journey and in her preparations! I am flattered and honored that she thought of me. I consider her like a sister. We have been told a few times that we have similar features. One time, someone thought we were actually sisters. :) She is also the godmother of DD1. There have been times when she took her out for a "ninang date" and people mistook DD1 for her daughter.

Anyway, her engagement got my head filled with wedding thoughts. I've been browsing again and again some of my favorite wedding photographer blogs. All the gorgeous pics make me want to get married again just so I'd have the chance to be photographed by these amazing photographers. As if I'd be able to afford them, right?! LOL! One thing I noticed among these photographers is that most of them use Canon cameras, particularly the markII 5d. Apparently, this is the rockstar of professional cameras! I am a Nikon girl myself and am content with my lowly nikon d40x - for now. I want to eventually upgrade my camera body but that will happen in the far future yet.

I am truly excited for my good friend. I have had to consciously pry myself away from the computer because I was just spending too much late nights looking through blogs. Sigh... love is in the air!

With This Ring...

We went to the wedding of DH's cousin last Saturday in the Bay area. It was beautiful. They bride was beautiful of course. What I really liked was the reception. The church ceremony was at noon. They had a lunch reception with their immediate families soon after. At 5:30 pm, there was the party for everyone invited. The party was held in their new house. And I enjoyed how intimate and warm and cozy the whole event felt. I felt like it was a real celebration of this couple.
As we entered the house, the living room was transformed into the buffet area. Their flat screen TV showed their video montage. This was playing all night so you could come in and watch it at your own convenience. The dining area was the dessert area. At the same table was the guest book. Instead of the usual thing you see at weddings, they had bought this art book ( I forgot to look at the title and artist) and asked people to find a page that they liked or one that reminded them of the couple and write a message for them in there. It was the first time I had seen this and thought it was really unique!
At the garage was the party scene. They had the bar there and the younger folks were partying. The backyard was illuminated by strings of blue and white lights. There was a small firepit where people could congregate to warm themselves. They had the father-daughter dance followed by a romantic first dance by the couple. The bouquet and garter toss were done there too.
Anyway, I really really enjoyed the reception. If I were yet to get married, it would be a reception I would love to have for myself.
The wedding also brought DH's relatives together for a mini-reunion. His uncle and cousin flew in from Miami to attend the event. There were 3 families (ours included) that drove from So.Cal. And another family from around the Bay area was there too. It was an awesome weekend filled with laughter and giggles. It was simply hilarious to have all the cousins swapping stories, etc. And all the kids running around, getting to know their 2nd cousins, it was truly family mayhem ( the good kind of course!)
The only sort of damper for the weekend was seeing DH's uncle just hobble in pain. From what DH learned of the meds his uncle had been taking, he must've been in a lot of pain because those were heavy-duty pain meds he was taking. I'm still not clear on what was causing the pain but I could clearly see that it was kind of hard for him to move around, expecially by the end of Saturday. The festivities of the day must have worn him out.
We drove back home yesterday and arrived late at night here. I've declared it a school holiday for me and my girls. Yeah! But DS still had to go to school though. At least, I'm getting to kick back and relax today. I think I'm keeping it a light school week. It is a pretty special week for me after all. ;)

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Wedding

So, we were at Vegas over the weekend to attend BIL's wedding...

On our way there, we suffered a major flat tire! Thank God we did not get into an accident as we were in the freeway when it happened. DH and I heard a sound - can't really explain it but I certainly wondered what it was. It did not seem like we hit anything. I figured it might have been the car next to us. Several seconds later, DH tells me that we might have a flight tire as he felt the car start swerving. The sensor then started to light up and sound. We pulled to the shoulder and sure enough we had a major flat tire - as in it was FLAT!

Anyway, we got to the hotel safely. We were just 10 minutes away when we had to pull over. Everyone except SIL took a nap. We got up at around 4:30 to start getting ready for the wedding. Our goal was to leave at about 5:45. That would give us ample time to get to the wedding chapel before 6:30. As we were loading up the kids into the car, MIL received a call from BIL asking where we were. She assured him that we were about to leave. Then he says, "But the ceremony starts at 6!"

We were all surprised! He did not inform us that the ceremony was going to start at 6. In fact, SIL thought it was not until 7:30. DH said that he spoke to BIL the day before and BIL said it would start at 6:30 which BIL now denies having said. There was some he said, she said drama.

Anyway, we told BIL that we were going to try to get to the chapel as soon as we could. Then as if fate really wanted us to miss the ceremony, there was an accident right by the exit we were to take. So of course, this caused further delay. We arrived at the chapel and they were already taking pictures. Emotions were high but at least we got to take a family picture before we were asked to leave the chapel. Yes, we were asked to leave the chapel by the official photographer so that it would be easier to take photos. Geesh!

Reception followed at the Red Rock Casino. It was our first time to go there. I think it's a new casino. Another odd thing was that we were asked to eat ahead. It was already 8 pm and the couple had not arrived yet. We were told that the kitchen closes at 9 pm. So, we got our food. the couple arrived at around 8:45. Apparently, their limo took them to their hotel first before taking them to the reception site. Dunno why. Did not bother to ask anymore.

To say that our family was disappointed at the turn of events of the evening would be an understatement. MIL was particularly emotional of course. This was her youngest, her baby. It was not just a physically tiring day but emotionally draining too. The kids' presence helped stave off the tears as they distracted her. I knew, however, that she was just about ready to break down.

After the reception, we passed by Fremont street to watch the Fremont street experience. It was not a very good show that we caught but we really had no more energy to stay for another hour to see the next one. When we got back to our hotel, we just performed our quick and simple night skin care regimen and went straight to bed. No more bed time stories for the kids. No more small talk for the adults. Everyone just wanted to get the day over with.

So that was our weekend. How was yours?
