Quotable Quotes

With 5 children in the family, it is never boring in the house. At some point throughout the day, someone is bound to say something funny enough to print on funny t shirts.

From DD3
(singing) "Why are there so many...songs about reindeers...and what's on the other side?"

"Can I have a guinea pig polvoron?" (aka pinipig polvoron - a Filipino dessert/snack)

My dad saw her growling like a mad dog at the wall...
{him} What are you doing?
{her} I'm just trying to scare the ants!

Heard Around the House

Here are some quips, some endearing, others funny, that have been uttered around the house lately. I've posted some of them on Facebook but I wanted to put them on one spot here. Most are from DD3 because she's just at that age when almost anything she says is funny. LOL! And loves it when she makes us laugh!

{DD3}
"Mommy, who do you love me so much"
"Why did the lost king become a mama?" : as we were reading Tut's Mummy: Lost and Found
"This is like the book about the chicken mommy!!" :referring to the book on Egyptian mummies
"What happens when you don't have eyebrows? You will look funny!!"
"When you're mad, you still love us. When you're happy, you still love us too!"
"I prayed to Jesus so you will not be mad at the kids, ok?"

{DD1}
"Mommy, this is not for me. I'm just making (DD2) breakfast because she's not feeling well. She has too much sipon."
"Mommy will never leave us. She and Daddy will never ever leave us!"
"If saints become saints after they die and go to heaven, how can St. Nicholas come down and leave presents for kids?"

Kicking Baby

DS: (excitedly announcing to his siblings) I felt the baby kick in Mommy's tummy!!
DD1 & DD2: I want to feel it too!!
DD3: The baby kicked Mommy's tummy?! That's not good. That's bad!

LOL! I love that girl!

Blame it on Eve

I was feeling very nauseated one late afternoon. As I lay on my bed, DS walks up to me and asks how I was feeling. I told him I was not feeling so well.

He replied, "Well, you have your great great great great great grandmother Eve to thank for that. If she did not sin, you would not have a difficult time being pregnant."

Haha! That alleviated the discomfort quite a bit!

Really Really Green

DD3 had just finished her bath. As usual, it seemed like a war zone in the tub with all her bath toys, nesting cups and maybe the occasional pool floats in there. She was picking up all these toys and putting them back in her tub toy container.
Me: There's a green cup behind you. (pointing to a dark green cup)
DD3: (turns around and picks it up) That's not green!
(digs into the container for a light green cup) THIS is green!
Me: What color is the other one then?
DD3: (puts both cups side by side) This (light green) is green and this (dark green) is really really green!

Overheard

DD1 & DD2 were "face painting" each other with markers. They were mighty pleased with themselves of course!

DD2 runs off to her Lola excitedly...

DD2: Lola, I can face paint you too!
Lola: I don't want to!
DD2: Why not? No need to worry, they're washable markers. That means you can wash them off! It's easy.

In fairness, seems like they thought this through before doing it.

Fountain of Youth

Do you want to discover the fountain of youth? The best wrinkle creams? The fastest wrinkle removers?

It's definitely laughing with your kids!

My kids definitely make me want to tear my hair off sometimes but I'm learning (after 4 kids! I guess I'm a slow learner. LOL) to not take life seriously all the time. These kids are really only young once and it is important to enjoy them right now! Their spontaneity and zest for life is truly infectious if you allow yourself to enjoy them. And laughing with your kids will truly make your face glow and your spirits soar.

The other day, DD3 was "reading" the book, A Bad Case of Stripes. The page where the little girl was being examined by the doctor fascinated her. The illustration showed the doctor pulling up the girl's eyelid to examine her eyes. DD3 comes up to me excitedly and shows me this face...
Now, wouldn't that make you laugh?!

Master

DD3 is such a character. At the tender age of 2, she already knows how to push my buttons and how to charm her way back to my good graces.

I was having a long day yesterday. DD3 was being especially hyper as I was giving her a quick bath. When she continued to jump around and around with me trying to get her dressed, I exclaimed with exasperation, "Naiinis na ako!"(I'm getting terribly pissed!).

She stopped. Turned to face me. Put her hands in front of her in a praying position. Bowed from the waist toward me and said, "Master."

OMG! I collapsed onto the bed laughing! Her comic timing is impeccable!

Funnies Around the House

A recent post from my friend Donna reminded me that I haven't blogged about my kids' funny anecdotes & quips. I really need to be more attentive & write these down often.

1. DS had been looking for his belt. After days of futile searching, I find it in his sister's closet. He shows it to my mom...
Lola: Who found it?
DS: Oh, that daughter of yours!

2. After dropping off DD1 at school, DS who was off that day, met & went to his classmate's house for a morning playdate. Upon getting back into the car,
DD2: Mom...I think you forgot something!
ME: What?
DD2: Kuya, of course!
ME: Oh, he went to V's house. He'll be back later.
DD2: huh? This is not his house. This is Ate's school!

3. DD1 explaining to me the difference between her lola(grandma) and Lola ( from Charlie & Lola show)
" Low-la is how you say the name in Charlie & Lola. Loh-la is Lola A."

Reading Redefined

Yesterday, I took DD1 to her Kindergarten screening. DH had work so the rest of the kids had to tag along.
During the drive to the school ...

DD1: I don't want to go to Kindergarten. I want to stay in preschool. Why will I go to Kindergarten?
DS: Because you need to grow up. In Kindergarten, you'll learn new things. They'll teach you how to read and write and...
DD1: But I already know how to read. I just don't know the words!

LOL! I was literally laughing out loud as I overheard their conversation at the back of the car. I'm still laughing just recalling it. Sigh...DD1 totally cracks me up!

Hakuna Matata

DD2 singing Hakuna Matata from The Lion King

"It's a problem-freeeeeee... a recipeeeee...Hakuna Matata!"

FYI, the lyrics should've been "It's a problem-free philosophy. Hakuna Matata" Thought I'd throw it in there in case you're not familiar with this particular song. LOL!

Thank you for your interest, and it had better be genuine and non-sexual. Please allow four to six years for processing.

You will be contacted in writing if you are approved. Please do not try to call or write (since you probably can't, and it would cause you injury). If your application is rejected, you will be notified by two gentlemen wearing white ties carrying violin cases (you might want to watch your back) .

To prepare yourself, start studying Daddy's Rules for Dating.

Daddy's Rules for Dating
Your dad's rules for your boyfriend (or for you if you're a guy):

Rule One:
If you pull into my driveway and honk you'd better be delivering a package, because you're surely not picking anything up.

Rule Two:
You do not touch my daughter in front of me. You may glance at her, so long as you do not peer at anything below her neck. If you cannot keep your eyes or hands off of my daughter's body, I will remove them.

Rule Three:
I am aware that it is considered fashionable for boys of your age to wear their trousers so loosely that they appear to be falling off their hips. Please don't take this as an insult, but you and all of your friends are complete idiots. Still, I want to be fair and open minded about this issue, so I propose this compromise: You may come to the door with your underwear showing and your pants ten sizes too big, and I will not object. However, in order to ensure that your clothes do not, in fact come off during the course of your date with my daughter, I will take my electric nail gun and fasten your trousers securely in place to your waist.

Rule Four:
I'm sure you've been told that in today's world, sex without utilizing a 'Barrier method' of some kind can kill you. Let me elaborate, when it comes to sex, I am the barrier, and I will kill you.

Rule Five:
It is usually understood that in order for us to get to know each other, we should talk about sports, politics, and other issues of the day. Please do not do this. The only information I require from you is an indication of when you expect to have my daughter safely back at my house, and the only word I need from you on this subject is: 'early.'

Rule Six:
I have no doubt you are a popular fellow, with many opportunities to date other girls. This is fine with me as long as it is okay with my daughter. Otherwise, once you have gone out with my little girl, you will continue to date no one but her until she is finished with you. If you make her cry, I will make you cry.

Rule Seven:
As you stand in my front hallway, waiting for my daughter to appear, and more than an hour goes by, do not sigh and fidget. If you want to be on time for the movie, you should not be dating. My daughter is putting on her makeup, a process than can take longer than painting the Golden Gate Bridge. Instead of just standing there, why don't you do something useful, like changing the oil in my car?

Rule Eight:
The following places are not appropriate for a date with my daughter: Places where there are beds, sofas, or anything softer than a wooden stool. Places where there is darkness. Places where there is dancing or holding hands. Places where the ambient temperature is warm enough to induce my daughter to wear shorts, tank tops, midriff T-shirts, or anything other than overalls, a sweater, and a goose down parka - zipped up to her throat. Movies with a strong romantic or sexual themes are to be avoided; movies that feature chain saws are okay. Hockey games are okay. Old folks homes are better.

Rule Nine:
Do not lie to me. I may appear to be a potbellied, balding, middle-aged, dimwitted has-been. But on issues relating to my daughter, I am the all-knowing, merciless god of your universe. If I ask you where you are going and with whom, you have one chance to tell me the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. I have a shotgun, a shovel, and five acres behind the house. Do not trifle with me.

Rule Ten:
Be afraid. Be very afraid. It takes very little for me to mistake the sound of your car in the driveway for a chopper coming in over a rice paddy near Hanoi. When my Agent Orange starts acting up, the voices in my head frequently tell me to clean the guns as I wait for you to bring my daughter home. As soon as you pull into the driveway you should exit the car with both hands in plain sight. Speak the perimeter password, announce in a clear voice that you have brought my daughter home safely and early, then return to your car - there is no need for you to come inside. The camouflaged face at the window is mine.
