Sisterhood of Weight Loss

Some friends and I were at a children's party one afternoon when we started talking about our weight issues. Yes, those things crop up when you're in front of baaad fried foods. Haha. We lamented that we wished we lived closer to each other so that we could find time to maybe work out together.

"Well, why don't we create our own personal online weight support system. Just the three of us."

(I cocked my head to the side and wondered what she meant)

"Aside from emailing each other, we can set a time to chat/video conference weekly so we can keep tabs on each other's successes and slip-ups. Why should I pay to join a weight support group and talk to people I don't know when we can support each other?"

Great idea, right?

So, we're starting this week. We all have the 30-day Shred by Jillian Michaels and we'll do that everyday, and "meet" on YM on Saturday morning for our weekly chats.

I think it sounds like a good plan! This is one thing that I think DH does not understand. He's been "encouraging" me to lose weight for months now that it's gotten to be a source of friction between us. To him, it's all a matter of willing oneself to do it. To me, it's a more complicated process. Obviously, I lack the self-discipline to just "will" it or I would not have gained this much weight, right? I need people to support me. I need those people to understand what I'm going through. Sadly, DH is not someone who will be able to support me in the way that I need. But gladly, I have these sisters to support me and me to support them. I doubt if this will result in any fast weight loss. That is not the goal but would be a welcome result, of course! LOL! Seriously, I hope that this will all help us manage our weight effectively and help our own families live healthfully.

Moving Westward

These friends of ours are moving westward towards the end of the year. They are currently living in Upstate New York but will be moving to Northern California sometime in December. Both DH and I have known these cross country movers since our high school days. JS was DH's classmate while AS was my classmate in highschool. Yes, we go back a long way.

They've visited us twice now and it's always been a blast. Maybe now that they are a lot nearer, we will be able to get together more often. Maybe we might even vacation together sometimes. AS had been very dissatisfied with their stay in Upstate New York. She detests the harsh winters their area gets and wishes for more sunny days. They're moving to Northern California which is not as sunny as So.Cal but will definitely be a big change from the weather they've endured over on the East Coast.

Fun in the Sun at La Jolla

As I wrote in my last post, we met up with a former co-teacher last Saturday at La Jolla beach. It was such a blast! We were there bright and early at around 9 am. We always like to get to the beach early to stake out a good spot. Teacher L and family arrived soon after. Since it had been 9 years since we last saw each other, there was a lot of catching up to do. We chatted the day away! LOL! It definitely felt like the ole' CCE days. My kids took to them immediately. They really are an awesome family - so much fun, really easygoing. Teacher L and her husband R are raising their son very well. He and DS hit it up as they boogie boarded together. He was even playing with DD3. Such a good kid.

As we were saying our goodbyes, we both agreed that it cannot take another 9 years before we meet up again. In fact, we need to have a reunion of former CCE teachers who are US based already. At last count, there are at least 6 of us. I really do not care where we meet. We're split evenly between the 2 coasts, 3 are based in the West and 3 are based in the East. Maybe the Outer Banks if we're meeting up in the East or SFO or Vegas if we're meeting up in the West. Wherever it might be, it certainly would be such a blast to get together! That would be one awesome girls' weekend out! If we plan it early enough, we can all save up for it!

Onto La Jolla

Tomorrow is going to be a grand day! The family is driving down to La Jolla to spend the day at the beach with Teacher L. We used to teach at CCE back in Manila. This will be our first time to see each other since 2000 when I left for LA. She left soon after for Chicago where she is now based with her husband and only son. When I last saw her son, he was a toddler clinging to her for dear life. I bet he is all gron up now. I'm really looking forward to seeing her and her family.
I was hoping that our other friend Teacher R would be able to come along. She is again another co-teacher who is now based in Houston. She has family near where I live so I've been able to see her a few times when she comes to Cali to visit. I think the last time I saw her was in 2006 though. It would have been awesome to get all 3 of us together. Unfortunately, Teacher R is helping her brother move this weekend. I suppose she is his moving companies Los Angeles branch. LOL! She won't be able to come down to meet with us but will be meeting Teacher L on Tuesday. I'll have to schedule another get-together with Teacher R while she's here.

I've got our bags packed now. It's only a day trip but with all the towels, it can get really bulky. I'll be getting our packed lunch and all the snacks ready now for we leave bright and early at 6am tomorrow. Be back with pictures!

Busy Memorial Weekend

It was a holiday today as the country commemorates Memorial Day. We had some friends over for a barbecue/get-together. We originally planned for the kids to go swimming, thinking that it would be warm enough. Uh...it was a high of 65 degrees today! Definitely not a day for swimming. But guess what? The kids braved the cold and spent some time in the pool. The daddies went with the kids by the pool while the mommies stayed inside where it was nice and warm. Hehehe... It was all in all a good day spent with good friends and filled with good food! I was having too much fun that I forgot to take pics! LOL!

We had a busy weekend too. Friends of ours from New York and their 2 kids were our houseguests for the weekend. Would you believe that this family of four with kids aged 3 years old and 4 months old had just one luggage for them all?! They were here in California for more than a week and we were their last stop. The mom must've been a very good packer and their travel supplies kept to the barest minimum. I don't think I would've been able to do that. I almost always overpack since I always worry that we'll run out of something during the trip. LOL!

Anyway, last Friday, DS performed at their school talent show too. He and 5 of his friends sang "Take me out to the Ballgame." It was so cute. We were so proud of them!!!

In the afternoon, we took our friends to the Getty Museum despite the rainy weather. Fortunately, the rain stopped later in the afternoon and we were able to explore the gardens. The kids really enjoyed playing with each other. The kids also enjoyed playing at the Family Room, exploring art and stuff.

Saturday and Sunday were spent at home with our friends. We took them to the nearby park, rode bikes and played in the playground. Good old-fashioned childhood fun. Our friends left on Sunday and my kids were already asking when M would be back. A sure sign that they enjoyed her company!

How about you, how was your weekend?
