Ok...
Called the school office today re: DS' art work being chosen.
Yes, his art is representing Kindergarten!!!
Woohoo!
"Official" explanation to me was:
During art class, the kids were asked to do Christmas art. Then these were presented to the Development commitee (in charge of fundraising). The commitee chose one artwork per grade level to print into a card. DS' work was picked! These cards are being sold to help raise funds for the school.

The cards are on display in the office so I might go sometime this week to take a look. And probably take a picture to share with you all.

What a great way to start my week!
