A word on GPS technology

Last year, DH went and bought a Garmin GPS unit. Initially, I thought it was such an unnecessary purchase. Come to think of it, I still do! LOL! However, it has been such a great help to have around.
Features I like about it (aside from the obvious giving you directions):
1. When you miss a turn or an exit or go the wrong direction, it recalculates your position and shows you either an alternate route or how to get back to your original route.
2. It sorta like a directory too since you can search for, say, restaurants in the area. Particularly helpful when you're in an unfamiliar place and the kids are getting hungry!
3. It "remembers" your favored route. Like our route home... DH prefers using the smaller side streets once we get off the freeway. Initially, the GPS kept recalculating and telling us to get back to its "original" route. Eventually, it used DH's preferred route.
