Doing our part...
in becoming more energy efficient. We've always been conscious in reducing our energy consumption. When our family was smaller, our electric bill was much smaller too. With the kids growing up, our electric consumption has also gone up. We try to remind the kids to turn off the lights when they leave a room. Or better yet, not turn on the lights at all during the day. But kids will be kids and they often forget of course.
To lessen our energy consumption, we looked for more energy efficient home lighting and appliances. We now use compact fluorescent lights (CFL) which uses 50%-80% less energy than incandescent lights. They also last about 10 times longer than the regular light bulb.
It really seems like such a simple solution but can have a real effect in the environment if each home would replace even just one incandescent light with a CFL. I do not remember the exact statistic mentioned in a TV I ad I had seen but it said something like if a number of people on the state just changed 1 bulb to CFL, the reduction in pollution would be like taking a couple of thousand of cars on the road.
