Passing it on

Our bedtime routine is pretty simple. After the standard prayers, each child gets to thank God for anything and everything that's happened to them during the day. They also think of at least one thing they're sorry for and say sorry to Jesus. Then, I lay my hands on them and say a special prayer for each one. Well, last week, as we were about to end, DS quickly stands up, lays his hands on my head and starts to pray, "Dear Jesus, please bless Mommy and the baby. Keep them healthy. Make Mommy not feel sick or tired. Amen" It was a quick prayer but I tell you, I was touched to my core. I hugged him tight that night and thanked God for giving me a wonderful son. I asked him if Daddy taught him that. He said no, he just thought of doing it himself because that's what we do as a family - we pray for each other.
As I pondered on today's quote, I realized that this is what is important to me - that I pass on my faith to my children. I want my children to grow up with a healthy fear of God, a personal relationship with Jesus and a love for Him so deep that they cannot imagine life away from their Lord. I want them to love Jesus so much that their love translates to love for their neighbor. Yes, that is what I want to pass on. And we might just be on the right track, given my son's prayer and concern for my well-being.
