First official game night

Last night was our first official family game night.
DH and I agreed to have a weekly family game night.
Why?
1. Because we believe in nurturing family ties. As the kids grow older and we become busier, we realize that if we want a strong family unit, we will need to make time for each other. It is easy to take this for granted while the kids are young and are with me 24/7. But as they start school and become busy with different activities, family time might just easily be forgotten, which leads me to reason #2...
2. We want to make this a habit. If spending time as a family becomes something they look forward to as young children, I believe they will carry this through their teenage years, even adulthood.
3. We want to create wonderful memories. Some of my best memories were of times spent playing with my family. My mom teaching me addition by playing Black Jack. During storms and blackouts, when there was nothing else to do but play boardgames. The time we played Guesstures and my mom acted out "train".
4. We want to have fun without spending too much. Special family times need not be expensive. We cannot afford to go to the movies every week, or eat out that often. We'd like to teach our children the value of living simply.
5. We want our kids to be happy. Enough said.
And I think the kids were happy we had game night last night. DS asked me this morning, "When is our next game night, Mom?"
"Next Thursday, " I replied.
"Wow, only 6 more days to go..." he replied as he counted the days in the calendar.
